Debug Universal Drivers Step by Step Lab Echo Kernel ModeThis lab introduces the Win. Dbg kernel debugger. Win. Dbg is used to debug the echo kernel mode sample driver code. Get the latest Windows Hardware Development Kit Windows HDK for Windows 10 and start developing Universal Windows drivers, and testing and deploying Windows 10. First, if there are other models by the same manufacturer, try their drivers. You may find that it just works or mostly works. Use this tool to find recommended system hardware or graphics hardware and drivers. Lab objectives. This lab includes exercises that introduce the debugging tools, teach common debugging commands, illustrate the use of break points, and show the use of the debugging extensions. In this lab, a live kernel debug connection is used to explore the following Use the Windows debugger commands. Use standard commands Call stacks, variables, threads, IRQLUse advanced driver debugging commands Use symbols. Set breakpoints in live debugging. View call stacks. Display the Plug and Play device tree. Work with thread and process context. This lab introduces the WinDbg kernel debugger. WinDbg is used to debug the echo kernel mode sample driver code. This article addresses issues related to the development of the Microsoft CCID class driver for Windows, including a list of the features in the USB CCID. Tell me about the issue and Ill help you find the solution you need. Download AMD Drivers Software for Radeon, FirePro, APU, CPU, desktops, and laptops. Note When working with the Windows debugger, there are two types of debugging that can be performed user or kernel mode debugging. User mode Applications and subsystems run on the computer in user mode. Processes that run in user mode do so within their own virtual address spaces. They are restricted from gaining direct access to many parts of the system, including system hardware, memory that was not allocated for their use, and other portions of the system that might compromise system integrity. Because processes that run in user mode are effectively isolated from the system and other user mode processes, they cannot interfere with these resources. Kernel mode Kernel mode is the processor access mode in which the operating system and privileged programs run. Kernel mode code has permission to access any part of the system, and is not restricted like user mode code. It can gain access to any part of any other process running in either user mode or kernel mode. Much of the core OS functionality and many hardware device drivers run in kernel mode. This lab will focus on kernel mode debugging, as that is the method used to debug many device drivers. This exercise covers debug commands that are frequently used during both user mode and kernel mode debugging. The exercise also covers debug extensions sometimes called Lab setup. You will need the following hardware to be able to complete the lab. A laptop or desktop computer host running Windows 1. A laptop or desktop computer target running Windows 1. A network cross over cable or a network hub and network cables to connect the two PCs. Access to the internet to download symbol files. You will need the following software to be able to complete the lab. Visual Studio 2. 01. Windows Software Development Kit SDK for Windows 1. Windows Driver Kit WDK for Windows 1. The sample echo driver for Windows 1. The lab has the following eleven sections. Section 1 Connect to a kernel mode Win. In Section 1, you will configure network debugging on the host and target system. The PCs in this lab need to be configured to use an Ethernet network connection for kernel debugging. This lab uses two PCs. Windows debugger runs on the host system and the KMDF Echo driver runs on the target system. The lt Host on the left is connected using a cross over ethernet cable to the Target on the right. The steps in the lab assume that you are using a cross over network cable, but the lab should also work if you can plug both the host and the target directly into a network hub. To work with kernel mode applications and use Win. Dbg, we recommend that you use the KDNET over Ethernet transport. For information about how to use the Ethernet transport protocol, see Getting Started with Win. Dbg Kernel Mode. C bcdedit set default DEBUG YES. Type this command to enable test signing. C bcdedit set TESTSIGNING ON. Type this command to set the IP address of the host system. You type commands in the smaller pane the command entry pane at the bottom of the window and view the command output in the larger pane at the top of the window. In the command entry pane, use the up arrow and down arrow keys to scroll through the command history. When a command appears, you can edit it or press ENTER to run the command. In Windows 1. 0, the driver has been rewritten by using the Kernel Mode Driver Framework that improves the overall stability of the driver. Improved Pn. Note  If you trying to install a USB device class driver included in Windows, you do not need to download the driver. They are installed automatically. If they are not installed automatically, contact the device manufacturer. For the list of USB device class driver included in Windows, see USB device class drivers included in Windows. Windows 1. 0In Windows 1. INF, Usbser. inf, has been added to SystemrootInf that loads Usbser. FDO in the device stack. If your device belongs to the Communications and CDC Control device class, Usbser. The driver is loaded based on a compatible ID match similar to other USB device class drivers included in Windows. USBClass0. 2USBClass0. Sub. Class0. 2If you want to load Usbser. Device Descriptor. For more information, see USB communications device class or USB CDC Specification found on the USB DWG website. With this approach, you are not required to distribute INF files for your device because the system uses Usbser. If your device specifies class code 0. Usbser. sys does not load automatically. Pnp Manager tries to find a driver. If a suitable driver is not found, the device might not have a driver loaded. In this case, you might have to load your own driver or write an INF that references another in box driver. If your device specifies class and subclass codes to 0. Usbser. sys, you have to write an INF that specifies the hardware ID of the device and the driver to install. For examples, look through the INF files included with sample drivers and find devices similar to your device. For information about INF sections, see Overview of INF Files. Note  Microsoft encourages you to use in box drivers whenever possible. On mobile editions of Windows, such as Windows 1. Mobile, only drivers that are part of the operating system are loaded. Unlike desktop editions, it is not possible to load a driver through an external driver package. With the new in box INF, Usbser. USB to serial device is detected on the mobile device. Windows 8. 1 and earlier versions. In Windows 8. 1 and earlier versions of the operating system, Usbser. USB to serial device is attached to a computer. To load the driver, you need to write an INF that references the modem INF mdmcpq. Install and Needs sections. Those sections are required for instantiating the service, copying inbox binaries, and registering a device interface GUID that applications require to find the device and talk to it. Usbser. sys supports USB Selective Suspend. It allows the attached USB to serial device to enter a low power state when not in use, while the system remains in the S0 state. It defines Windows Runtime classes that can use to communicate with a USB CDC device through a serial port or some abstraction of a serial port. The classes provide functionality to discover such serial device, read and write data, and control serial specific properties for flow control, such as setting baud rate, signal states. In Windows 8. 1 and earlier versions, you can write a Windows desktop application that opens a virtual COM port and communicates with the device. For more information, see Win.
